Jillian Edelstein
Jillian was born and educated in Cape Town and began her career as a press photographer in Johannesburg. Since her arrival in London in 1985, she has produced portraits for some of the world’s leading publications such as Vanity Fair, The New York Times, Marie Claire and The Sunday Times. Her subjects have included Nelson Mandela, Woody Allen, Daniel Day-Lewis & John Malkovich.
The National Portrait Gallery currently hold over ninety of Jillian’s portraits, and in 2009 held a solo exhibition of her work.
Jillian has produced award winning personal projects, including her book ‘Truth & Lies’, which documented the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. She has just completed her second book, which features her early photo essays as well as more recent work illustrating the story of a search for her ancestors. Commercially she has shot for clients including Sony Ericsson, Marks and Spencer, TK Maxx, Avon, and The Royal Shakespeare Company.
